Hull New Theatre

It opened in 1939 as the permanent home the Hull Repertory Theatre Company had never had, and it closed again in January 2016 for the biggest rebuild of its life. The Royal Ballet reopened it on 16 September 2017, in the middle of Hull's year as UK City of Culture.
The building
The refit was planned around the City of Culture year. An Arts Council grant of £5 million did not come, the council decided to go ahead anyway, and £13 million announced in the 2016 Budget covered the gap.
The theatre came back with more seats than it had before — 1,351 — and a stage that takes full-scale touring musicals, opera and ballet, plus the pantomime that is still the busiest thing in its year.
