Glasgow is one of the few cities on this site where two theatres take the same kind of show. The King's on Bath Street is Frank Matcham's, 1,785 seats over four levels; the Theatre Royal on Hope Street is Scotland's oldest working theatre and the largest surviving Charles J. Phipps auditorium in Britain, which it only is because it burned down twice and he rebuilt it twice.
The two runs here split between them, and the Theatre Royal gets the longer one: Cats holds the stage for three weeks over Christmas 2026.

King's Theatre
Frank Matcham built it in 1904 as the sister house to the Theatre Royal across town, and Historic Environment Scotland calls it an important example of an Edwardian theatre. Four levels, 1,785 seats, and a pantomime every year since long before anyone reading this was born.

Theatre Royal
Scotland’s oldest working theatre, home of Scottish Opera, and the largest surviving auditorium by Charles J. Phipps in Britain — which it is only because it burned down twice and he rebuilt it twice.
