Cardiff, United Kingdom
Wales Millennium Centre
1,897 seats
Wales's national arts centre, seven and a half acres of Cardiff Bay behind a slate-and-bronze front, built after the plan it replaced — an opera house for the same site — was abandoned. The Donald Gordon Theatre seats 1,897 and its stage is among the largest in Europe.
The building
The second phase opened in January 2009 and gave the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales a home inside the same building. Eight arts organisations are resident; since 2012 the centre has produced work of its own as well as receiving tours.
For a touring musical this is the biggest room in Wales, which is why almost everything on a UK tour stops here rather than anywhere else in the country.
Opening dates, capacities and architects on this page come from the theatre's own history pages and from Wikipedia.
