Orchard Theatre
1,025 seats
A 1,025-seat receiving house built by Dartford Borough Council and opened by the Duke of Kent in April 1983. In September 2023 the council closed it over the reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete in its structure, and its programme moved to a temporary building called Orchard West — so check the address on your ticket before you travel.
The building
The council built it and ran it, HQ Theatres took over the programming in 2008, and Trafalgar Entertainment inherited that in 2021. The mix is what a town-centre receiving house always is: music, comedy, dance, drama and a pantomime.
The 2023 closure was a structural one, not a commercial one. Dates listed against the Orchard for 2027 are the producer's, and where the audience actually sits is the council's decision to announce.
Opening dates, capacities and architects on this page come from the theatre's own history pages and from Wikipedia.
