One Day, the musical, opens at the Garrick on 17 November and books to March

Two cream paper calendar pages on a dusk blue ground, the same date torn from each, a red paper thread joining them

One Day, David Nicholls's novel of two people met on one July day and followed for twenty years of the same date, has been a film and a Netflix series. From 17 November 2026 it is a West End musical, at the Garrick Theatre, booking to 14 March 2027.

The pair

Jamie Muscato is Dexter and Sharon Rose is Emma. Muscato was the Christian of Moulin Rouge! in London; Rose has led Six and Hamilton here.

The makers

Music and lyrics by Abner and Amanda Ramirez, the husband-and-wife duo Johnnyswim, in their first stage score; book by David Greig, the Scottish playwright who adapted Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Lorax for the stage; direction by Max Webster, whose Life of Pi came from Sheffield to the West End and Broadway.

The theatre

The Garrick is a 700-seat house on Charing Cross Road, small for a musical, which is the right size for a two-person love story with a band and a wrong one for a spectacle. The production has chosen the first.

The booking

A March horizon is a short one for a new musical and reads as a limited season with an option to extend; the box office is selling four months.

The Garrick is the tell. A producer who believed One Day was the next Wicked would have waited for a 1,400-seat house; choosing a 700-seater says the show is built as a chamber piece and priced as one, and that it expects to sell on the title and the two leads rather than on scale. Muscato and Rose are both West End names with followings, and four months of them is a sensible first bet. If it extends past March the show has found its audience; if it announces a new cast for the spring, it has found a run.
