Disney's High School Musical is playing London again. Previews at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre began on 12 October 2026, the press night was on 20 October, and the run is booking to 3 January 2027.

Where it comes from

This is the production that played the Lowry in Salford in the summer, produced by Hope Mill Theatre and Chris Harper Productions in association with Lowry. WhatsOnStage calls it the show's first UK non-replica production, which means a staging made here rather than a copy of the American one. The stage version dates from 2006, and London first saw it at the Hammersmith Apollo in 2008.

The cast

Tobias Turley is Troy Bolton and Leonor Correia is Gabriella Montez; Caitlin Tipping and Luke Bayer are Sharpay and Ryan Evans. Harry Judd, McFly's drummer, plays Coach Bolton, and KayCee Stroh, from the original films, plays Ms Darbus.

The makers

Joseph Houston and William Whelton co-direct, Aaron Renfree choreographs, the book is David Simpatico's, and the music is adapted, arranged and produced by Bryan Louiselle.

The reviews

Four stars from Time Out, WhatsOnStage, The Stage and London Theatre, three from the Guardian. The praise went to the energy, the basketball-court staging and the leads; the reservations to the book and a few of the songs.

The practical part

The show runs 2 hours 20 minutes with an interval. Age guidance is 6+; under-16s must sit with an adult and under-3s are not admitted. Seats start at £31. The BSL-interpreted and captioned performance is on 11 November at 7.30pm, and the audio-described one on 18 November at 7.30pm.

The McFly connection

Judd's bandmate Tom Fletcher wrote the songs for Paddington at the Savoy, so for the next ten weeks McFly has a hand in two of London's family musicals.

Twelve weeks over Christmas, a Disney title, guidance of 6+ and seats from £31: this is a family booking, priced and placed for it. Wembley Park is outside the West End but on the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines, which for a family coming in from north-west London or the Home Counties is an easier evening than Leicester Square. The age line is the thing to read before buying: under-3s are not admitted at all, and every under-16 needs an adult in the next seat.
