Evita

What Evita actually is

Evita follows Eva Duarte from a small-town childhood in Argentina to radio stardom, marriage to Juan Perón and a place as the most adored and most resented woman in the country, dead at thirty-three. Che, a narrator who is half chorus and half prosecutor, argues with her the whole way through.

Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the music and Tim Rice the lyrics. It began as a concept album in 1976 and reached the London stage in 1978; it is sung almost end to end, and “Don't Cry for Me, Argentina” is the song everyone knows.

Jamie Lloyd's production played the London Palladium from June to 6 September 2025. It is produced by the Jamie Lloyd Company and Michael Harrison, and Rachel Zegler, who won the Olivier for it, plays Eva again on Broadway.
